The Amstel (the city’s river) has one of the most charming canal ring of Amsterdam and is mainly characterized by the lively Rembrandtplein, other entertainment centre of the city, together with the Leidseplein.
In 1876 the statue of Rembrandt was put in the center of the square, taking the name of the artist (formerly the square was known as The Botermarkt).
